ABOUT THE BRAND

 

CONTRÓ is a tailoring brand for men and women. It was established in 2010 by Alicia Rascon Contró and is based in Mexico City. The firm specializes in bespoke tailoring of suits and blazers for both men and women, but also creates one-of-a-kind ready to wear pieces. Contró's focus lies on precise tailoring, quality workmanship, exceptional fabrics and impeccable details, creating beautifully crafted pieces that can last for generations. 

 

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

 

Born and raised in Mexico City, Alicia R. Contró is a Textile Designer from Mexico City. 

 

After graduating from Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City) with a degree in Textile Design and completing several internship programs with some of Mexico’s most renowned up and coming designers, she decided to enroll in different courses at London’s Central Saint Martins and the Parsons School of Design in New York. This sparked her creative passion and fueled her to start her own label, but she knew she needed additional training before embarking on such a project.

 

In order to master her technical skills, she enrolled into one of Paris' most prestigious design schools to get her Master’s Degree, L’École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, which housed and helped develop  the talent of designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino, among others. Having acquired her Master’s, Alicia interned at some of Paris’ most exclusive and ground-breaking boutiques in order to apply her technical knowledge as well as to gain real-life experience of the fashion business in the world’s fashion capital.

After several years of designing haute couture pieces for specialized boutiques and private clients, Alicia had a clear vision of the type of fashion she wished to create. Combining the utilitarian and the beautiful, the old and the new, she wanted to design long-lasting garments that would empower the men and women who wore them, that's when CONTRÓ started.
